My Maid of Honour…

For one reason or another… I believe that everything happens for a reason.

A year ago today, I was in a different place, losing the person I thought was going to be a big part of my wedding now seems like a distant memory. It was very hard for me to walk away from a friend I loved dearly, but our friendship was turning against us both.

But every cloud has a silver lining and as that ship sailed a new one from my past arrived at my port!

Back to the start…

When I moved back to Halesworth, little did I know, my childhood friend Lois also moved back from London, this was around three years ago – about the same time I started dating Sam actually.

We met through my dad’s martial art school when we were around seven years old. We played often as children, and I have some really fond memories.

Sadly, Lois then became very ill and had to fight Crones Disease. At the time I was far too young to understand why she couldn’t come and play with me anymore and naturally we drifted our separate ways. I am pleased to say Lois is doing much better these days.

As we grew older, we started bumping into each other when she was at home from London at Christmas down our local pub. Very slowly we started to build a friendship again.

The here and now…

Lois and I chat regularly, we meet for coffee each week, we go out, we support each other.

That to me is what friendship is all about, and with our past history and family connections, it made sense that the person next to me when I say the biggest vows I will ever make, should be Lois. She always supports my accomplishments – with no hint of jealously and along with my partner Sam, we have some fun times together.

My proposal…

So it was my turn to do the asking and I got a little creative. In a box I put a balloon, in the balloon I put a note saying “will you be my maid of honour”. She opened the box, popped the balloon and said she would.

Here was the fateful moment! (over cocktails of course)!

I am really looking forward to hitting some wedding fayres and going on this wedding adventure with Lo by my side. We also have the best man JC, Sam’s childhood buddy and my other bridesmaid Sam’s sister Anna.

As for the friend I had to leave behind, I still love you and wish that things could have been much different, until one can help themselves they can’t be helped at all.

Ps – Did I mention her dad was the star of Quests Combat Dealers! lol! Always lots of tanks around!
